Virginia Beach, VA (February 22, 2023) – On February 21, 2023, Chartway held its 64th Annual Meeting and elected by acclamation the following individuals to the board of directors:
Melinda M. Barbish, Incumbent
Barbish has been a volunteer for the credit union since 2010, chairs the Chartway’s executive compensation committee, and a is a board director of the Chartway Promise Foundation. She also served on the audit and education committees for the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators. Barbish previously implemented and directed audit and compliance activities as an audit/accounting manager for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of the Treasury, Division of Unclaimed Property. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Longwood University and is a certified public accountant.
CAPT Wayne E. Foshay, Sr. USN (Ret.), Incumbent
Foshay has been a credit union volunteer since 2001, a member of its board since 2008, and currently serves as the chair of the Chartway Promise Foundation. Additionally, Foshay has commendably contributed to the success of the credit union serving chair of the governance, ethics & policy committee and serving on the volunteer recruitment & development committee – enhancing Chartway’s volunteer recruitment efforts and the operations of its associate directors’ program. He also served as board chair from 2013 to 2016, chaired the credit union’s CUSO board of directors from 2005 to 2009, and provided leadership on the legislative/regulatory & advocacy, new services, and asset/liability management committees.
Steven W. Warnecke, Incumbent
Warnecke serves as the board chair of the credit union’s new CUSO, Chartway Ventures, and on the asset/liability & management and volunteer recruitment committees. Warnecke is an established media executive with more than 20 years of domestic and international experience in TV program distribution, media sales, sponsorship, and management in both broadcast and cable. He currently serves as National Sales Director for Senders NFLMG, a national media agency, and holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in Government/Public Policy. Warnecke is also a sought-after guest lecturer and serves as a leader in his church and the community.
Curtis A. Price, Incumbent
Price continues to serve as a member of the asset/liability & management committee and the volunteer recruitment & development committee. Price is an experienced accountant and financial analyst who currently works for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command – Mid-Atlantic. Prior to working for the Department of the Navy, he served as an auditor of public accounts for the State of Virginia and as an accountant for both CraneMasters and WellsColeman. Price holds a BSBA in accounting from Longwood University and an MBA from Liberty University.
During the Annual Meeting, Brian Schools, Chartway’s president & CEO, reflected on Chartway’s commitment to its members, communities, and team. “We see the challenges many in our communities faced over the last year as an opportunity to help. By remaining focused on our Purpose and Values and focusing on members’ experience with us, we continue to shine brightly – lighting the path for our members to thrive financially.”
Looking forward to 2023, Chartway will remain committed to being inclusive, optimistic, passionate, and empowering. “We’ll continue looking for opportunities to come together to support our members and communities with connected member experiences, innovative technologies, and financial education,” said Schools.
The flagship of the credit union’s community commitment, Chartway Promise Foundation, granted more than $700,000 to charitable partners in 2022 to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges. Additionally, Chartway awarded ten $3,000 scholarships to student members attending college and hosted a paid summer internship program. Thanks to these and other initiatives, Chartway was recognized with the Dora Maxwell Award for social responsibility and community service from the Credit Union National Association.
Following the Annual Meeting, the board held its annual organizational meeting. During this time, the following slate of officers was established:
