With a promise to provide memorable experiences that bring joy, hope, and smiles to medically fragile children and their families, Chartway’s charitable arm –  Chartway Promise Foundation – worked tirelessly to raise funds in 2023. Thanks to corporate and individual donors, as well as successful fundraising events, its board was able to approve $1M in grants, for use in 2024, to the following non-profit charitable partners with missions that align with the foundation’s purpose:

“One million dollars in charitable grants can make a huge difference not just for these medically fragile children but their families as well,” said Christine Wilson, president of the Chartway Promise Foundation. “When we think about the health conditions these young heroes and their families face, we know we can bring joy to them with backyard playsets, opportunities to attend camp, funding for dream trips and experiences, adaptive equipment, and so much more. Thanks to those who support us, we have the resources to alleviate stress and bring smiles to these children and their families.”

“We have a responsibility to give back to our communities, and that’s something we take seriously,” said Wayne Foshay, board chair for the Chartway Promise Foundation. “Through partnerships with companion charities, business partners, sponsors, and contributors, Chartway’s charitable arm has awarded nearly $15M for charitable grants since 2005. With 2023’s $1M in grant awards, we’ve extended our reach farther into the communities we serve to strengthen and empower those who need it most.”

In 2023, Chartway Credit Union won 1st place honors from the Virginia Credit Union League, receiving the prestigious Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award in recognition of the efforts of Chartway Promise Foundation. The charity was also central to the naming of Chartway by VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads to the inaugural CIVIC 50 Hampton Roads business recognition program, a national initiative established by Points of Light that honors community-minded companies. Coastal Virginia Magazine honored the foundation with a “Giving Back” award this year for its specific and timely contributions to the community. In addition, the foundation received gold honors through the Salt City Best program hosted by The Salt Lake Tribune for the “Best Charity Event,” as voted by readers.
