September was a busy month at Chartway Promise Foundation as we went all in for the GOLD - the gold of pediatric cancer awareness. Throughout the month, we hosted a variety of Wish and Dream Reveals, fundraising events, and volunteer opportunities with the Promise of creating memorable experiences for medically fragile children and their families.

The month kicked off with the Chartway VB 10 Miler, during which we raised money for the Foundation through peer-to-peer fundraising and our partner J&A Racing and hosted two Wish Reveals with our charity partners.  Four-year-old Max received a family fishing charter boat trip in partnership with Hooked on Hope VB. The next day, we surprised Kylie with a trip to Hawaii for her and her family through our partner, Make-A-Wish® Greater Virginia.

Next, we were off to the Old Dominion vs. Wake Forest football game, where we presented sixteen-year-old Levi with an omnidirectional virtual reality treadmill in conjunction with our partner, Toby's Dream Foundation. Levi, recently diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma, had a leg amputated below the knee.  An avid runner and athlete, Levi looks forward to the day when he can run a marathon.

Our Chartway team all pitched in, packing 160 Ready Bags for our partner Roc Solid - the largest number packed at a corporate headquarters. These bags are delivered to hospitals across the country; so when a family receives the devasting news of a pediatric cancer diagnosis, they have everything they need for an unexpected hospital stay.

We wrapped up the month with the exciting Night for Hope, Day for Smiles. This two-day event began with a cocktail party and silent auction where attendees were treated to a fun photobooth, food, beverages, and live music. After hearing a testimonial from Mike Robey, co-founder of Hooked on Hope VB and the parent of a child who suffered through pediatric cancer, donors were inspired to raise their paddles high and support our Promise of joy, hope and smiles. The next day was a beautiful day for golf and a Dream Reveal for little Lily, who wanted to go to Disney World. Through our partnership with Toby's Dream Foundation, Lily heard the good news surrounded by cheering golfers and is on her way to the Magic Kingdom.

It was a wonderful month of collaboration and celebration of the children we serve, raising $300,000 for our 2023 grant awards. Partner Update

We have many wonderful partners in the communities we serve. Some are national organizations with high name recognition, others are small, grassroots foundations. Toby's Dream Foundation is the latter. Founded by Joan Steele, Toby’s Dream Foundation is dedicated to bringing joy to children with life-threatening illnesses by granting them a Dream of a lifetime. This charitable foundation is focused on serving children who are treated and referred from Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Since 2010, Chartway Promise Foundation has enjoyed a partnership with Toby's Dream Foundation and has funded hundreds of Dreams for the children they serve. We are always excited when we can help announce a Dream during a big event, like an ODU Football game or J&A Race Event, creating a memorable experience for the "Dreamer" child - and more importantly showing them and their families how much the community supports them. Thank you Joan and Toby's Dream Foundation for everything you do for the medically fragile children of our community.

Giving Tuesday, November 28, 2023

You may know Black Friday, Small-Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, but do you know Giving Tuesday? Giving Tuesday is a national day of giving and celebrates grassroots fundraising for charities. It is a social media campaign that hopes to attract new donors to a cause. While many of you are not new donors, you can still help with this campaign.  We have created a peer-to-peer fundraising site that you can share with friends and family across all social media platforms encouraging them to support you as a fundraiser for Chartway Promise Foundation. Of course, we welcome any donation and are excited to share that we have some anonymous donors willing to match funds collected during the Giving Tuesday campaign.  This is a great time to double your impact on the Promise Heroes we serve. Just click here to become a fundraiser or donor. You can also help just by elevating our messages on social media - like or share our posts.
