Scholarship Program One of Numerous Ways Chartway Strengthens its Communities

Chartway is proud to announce that eight student members have been selected to each receive a $3,000 scholarship, totaling $24,000 in financial assistance.

The Directors’ Memorial Scholarship, an ongoing program created in 1989, has annually awarded scholarships to student members pursuing collegiate studies. Since its inception, the program has awarded nearly $350,000 to student members. This year’s recipients were selected based on need, activities, academic performance, an essay, and a letter of reference:

  • Ava Van Moorlehem (Utah) – Brigham Young University, Utah
  • Elise Villanueva (Virginia) – Virginia Commonwealth University
  • Jaylee Montague (Utah) – Utah Valley University
  • Landon Gumucio (Utah) – Southern Utah University
  • Gracee Dalton (Utah) – Weber State University
  • Ryan Saal (Virginia) – Eastern Virginia Medical School
  • Katelyn Gudenau (Texas) – Dallas Baptist University
  • Onesimo Banda (Texas) – University of Kentucky

A strong supporter of education, Chartway further invests in students through a contemporary internship program, its Student-Run Credit Union program operating in four Norfolk, VA, public high schools, and through financial literacy and education.

The credit union also supports its communities by sponsoring events and programs, serving on a wide range of industry and trade association committees, partnering with local chamber groups, leading legislative efforts to advocate for financial issues, and providing charitable grants through its We Promise Foundation, which has raised more than $12 million to bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness.

“At Chartway, we’re dedicating to unlocking the potential of individuals and families so they can thrive – and a commitment to the communities we serve is such a vital part of that,” said Brian Schools, president and chief executive officer. “Whether it’s supporting children with medical hardship through our charitable arm, the We Promise Foundation, providing support during times of crisis, offering financial literacy education and wellness programs, or helping tomorrow’s leaders gain a strong academic foundation, we’re so proud to do it. It’s who we are.”
